Treat or Treat?

I got the second round of trick-or-treat here. Naughty Paul and chubby Ryan sprinkled red substances in front of our doorsteps. Yesterday it was Ryan who knocked and begged for candies. I already gave him all and yesterday, and since both of them were here today, and I have no more chocolates, I decided to toss away my pack of Milo. What a good sight seeing both of them with their spookiest outfit and Paul complaining “I can’t see anything with this mask on”. Kids!

then in the afternoon came Emily… She’s been wondering where all the blood came from and told me that Paul alleged it was from me because today is my time of the month! Kids!

________________

then just now, Paul & Ryan knocked and surprised me with a handful of treats they got from their trick-or-treat mania and said that those are for me. Awwww… both kids are really sweet. I’m gonna miss them because on Monday, their family will be off to Taiwan. I’ll be left with the ever-so-naughty Korean kids Gina and Emily.

(Eye) had a Bad Day

On Sunday morning I woke up with a swollen right upper eyelid. It was painful and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t some cockroach bite. It kept getting more irritating and I’m already having a blurred vision so I decided to put on a hot compress. It didn’t alleviate the situation. It even got worse. So I slept that evening hoping to wake up the next day ready for work without a bulging eyelid.

Come Monday, I woke up and realized I can’t open my right eye anymore and it was glued together. I decided not to report to office given my unpleasant visage. I called up KC and described my situation and she advised me to see the doctor because this seems to be ‘sore eyes’. Art and Marvs were curious on why I was on leave so I told them about my eye and Marvs said it might be ‘sore eyes’ given that my eye has water-like discharges. I’m not fond of going to the doctor and taking medicines but at that time, my eye really hurt so I put on my sunglasses and headed to Borough Medical Care Institute. Dr. Subido, is the ophthalmologist during Mondays 1:00-3:00 pm. He diagnosed me with ‘Internal Hordeolum’ after inspecting my eyes and eyelid, and examining my vision. (Internal Hordeolum is not a Sty). He told me this was caused by an infection which I got from anywhere. Because this was caused by an infection, he advised me to stay home for a week so I won’t endanger my officemates into getting it as well once I contaminate the surfaces and objects with my hands (that had contact with my eye). I was given a prescription for Fucithalmic antibiotic eye ointment/drops which should be used twice a day for 7 days. Cold compress will also help reduce the swelling. If the swelling will last for a few more weeks, I may be advised to undergo a surgery to remove the lump. I hope it won’t reach that stage.  Oh, and Dr. Subido is very nice and accommodating, and a great doctor so I’ll definitely consider him as my ophthalmologist for keeps.

How to Earn Extra Income

Most of us employees would like to think of a good means of having supplementary income that would make us wealthier. The income from your jobs is called ‘active income’ in which you use to buy your needs ideally. Those that are from your ‘passive income’ should be allotted to buy your wants. Some examples of passive income would be the rental income that comes from your apartment, interest income you earn from your investments.

Well, for starters, you should learn how to earn more so you can use this to source your Passive Income builder.

Here are some tips on how you can earn your extra money while working as an employee:

1) Get some success tactics

Most books offer and e-resources offer you several opportunities be it business prospecting or just a few tips on how you can make more money. You wouldn’t want to start without some advice from those who had their share of experiences.

  • Entrepreneur (magazine, P125/issue) offers you lots of opportunities in making money. You can also visit their website @ www.entrepreneur.com.ph
  • Start Your Own Business (magazine for US residents). Website is www.sbomag.com
  • Investment and Livelihood tips, information and resources for entrep-minded people. Website is www.mixph.com (EntrePinoys atbp.)

2) Go Franchising

Franchising a brand or a business already comes with the licensing. The good thing when you franchise is you readily have access to the suppliers of your products/services; plus – you’ll be given training and support. I’ve seen a book in National Bookstore, I think it’s Franchising 101 and it will list all the brands/businesses together with the initial investment required and the contact details. If you’re going low, some food carts are available @ P15,000.00 franchise fee.

Here’s a website with a collection of franchising opportunities available in the Philippines and in other countries:

Remember that the key is always a good location.

3) Start your own business

If you don’t want to set on franchising because you know you can save a lot when you start your own business, go on. Remember to choose a business that you love doing. Create a business plan, study your competitors and customers and think about how long your ROI would be. Some resource/s that may inspire you:

  • Go Negosyo (book)

4) Market your Face

Only a few has a really pretty face and when you do, you can use it to make money. You can target the advertising world so you can go modeling for a brand and the list goes on…

5) Use your Talents and Skills

Use what you know and share it with others. If you’re good in Taekwondo, why don’t you try and teach the kids. If you know how to play piano then you can teach on weekends. Also try tutorial lessons if you have the patience and the charm with children or if you’re good at cooking/baking, then create a list of your yummy products and distribute this among your friends which can be a good start or you can post the pictures online.

6) Make Money Online

Sell your stuff at online stores like e-bay and sulit.com.ph; Use your blog for paid ads and links. Create paid posts to review a product.

7) Offer Loans

You need the right amount of capital to start a loaning business. This also comes with a risk so get prepared to be left by the opportunistic borrowers.

A Day with Hasan

So in the afternoon of October 24th, just the day before the expected Enchanted Kingdom getaway, or the so-called HP AMG Family day, it was announced that ex-HP employees and contingent workers should be uninvited and if the +1 ticket is for these people, then the extra ticket should be canceled or the ticket bearer should be changed to another person. Just to give a quick background, each of them was given a ticket to EK (Enchanted Kingdom) and a +1 ticket so they can invite ‘supposedly’ any of their friends and family to join them. I, being prepared for the ‘tomorrow’s event’ just got shocked on this news. I ranted and ranted to Merryll, Arcie and Hari. To add to this bad day, I stayed late in the office just figuring out how to solve Kae’s data quality issue.

Initially I thought I still want to join, because I can still pay my own ticket to EK. After all, they haven’t requested an exclusive HP use of the amusement park. I don’t need free ticket to go there but after a lot of thinking, I just told myself, ‘what the heck, the weather’s just to hot and I can’t take a whole day under the sun.’

Since this EK plan was called off, I just went with Marlon and met Jobel in Glorietta for a chat over coffee. In the evening, we had dinner with Dana and her cute baby Hasan. She calls her baby ‘Kuykuy’. I was so glad I met him. His angelic face resembles her mom’s. He seems to have a lot of energy to go walking, jumping, crawling, and playing with other people in the restaurant. I heard he won’t wear slippers unless they’re Havaianas. I haven’t brought my digi cam so we just used Marlon’s cellphone to take a picture of Kuykuy. The quality isn’t so good but at least I got a pic:

Dana promised to invite us over to a dinner in her condo. We’ll be seeing them again soon and we can’t wait to have a taste of Dana’s delicacies.

Increase in PDIC Insurance Coverage

President is agreeing in the proposal to increase the maximum amount of PDIC coverage for each depositor from Php250,000.00 to Php 1,000,000.00. With the recent shakes in the economy and the uncertainties felt for the banking sectors especially in the U.S., people here in the Philippines panicked. Most of the people here are known for that kind of attitude (like the panic which ensued when there was a rice shortage and melamine outbreak). Most pulled out their investments particularly in mutual funds and even from big banks. Some say they’d rather keep their money under their beds.

This increase in the maximum coverage will surely entice people to put in their money in banks. This is the main objective of the raise – to promote confidence in people to entrust their money in our financial institutions. After all, are banks are stable and Asian countries have a better position of booming their economies today than the US which is in recession.

Desperate Housewives Season 2

I’m now in Season 2 of Desperate Housewives. I’m still wondering if there is some place like Wisteria Lane here. I think it’s nice and exciting to live in that kind of community.

Goodbye Ling Zhi…

I bought Appeton today. I am determined to gain some weight so I included this in my list when I went to the supermarket. I tried drinking Ensure and it is quite good because my friends say that it seems I gained a few pounds or it is just that I moved to another company with a less stressful work. I think it’s in our genes to be really slim (or should I say skinny) until one gets married.

They say that losing weight is very hard to achieve but those thinifers know how extremely difficult it is to gain weight – that even if one will eat, sleep, eat, sleep, eat again, it won’t work. Doctors and friends have also suggested several supplements that help gain more weight or improve your appetite. I can say that none of these worked except for one, which was suggested by Merryll. Those who have tried this Chinese medicine will know what I am talking about. The medicine is Ling Zhi Chuang Yao Wan. It can be bought in Chinese drug stores. Just make sure that you’ll be able to distinguish between the real Ling Zhi and the fake one. Examine the smell, the bottle and the label. I can’t help much because I haven’t bought a fake one. If you buy it in the usual markets (Binondo), it can cost around P350.00. If you buy it in malls, it’ll cost P750.00 or more.

This is really really really effective but, be careful you can get way out of your budget just wanting to eat. Even after you just had your lunch, it seems that minutes later, you’ll feel that you want to eat more. Some other effects of this is that you won’t feel stressed, you’re always happy and you’ll be able to sleep better. It really felt great!

I observed that my cheek and stomach went bloated and I also shopped for new clothes since my old ones do not fit anymore. Everyone noticed it, especially those who had not seen me for a while.

Being curious on why this was too effective, I researched and found out that this contains steroids. That’s why I stopped taking it. Also, some said that this can make your bones become brittle. Merryll once said, “then take it with Anlene!” Another reason why I said goodbye to this medicine is that I noticed that I looked better in the old me no matter how thin I am.

When I stopped taking it, my body shrinked to the old one, I became thin again, and looked a little stressed.

Now, I will see if Appeton will help me gain weight in a more natural way than taking steroids.

P.S. If you’re taking Ling Zhi, make sure you take advantage of the eat-all-you-can’s… munch munch munch…
