Discounts Discounts

Earlier this week, I was on my way to a local bookstore to look for some magazine and books. I came across some flyers about sale at a nearby appliance store. It’s an inventory sale where discounts go as high as 50%. The catch? Most of the items sold are display units. Nonetheless, these are still good items considering the model of the appliances and gadgets, the price discount and the mode of payment (12-month-0-percent on selected credit cards!). Not bad. But there could be better options elsewhere like online stores. Promotions such as Cyber Monday also offer excellent deals. Aside from this, there are other promos offered by Buy.com.

No Season 5 for Prison Break

I’m so devastated when the confirmation came out that Prison Break is coming to an end. I guess I was just used to watching this and I’m so attached to my favorite characters ‘T-Bag’ played by Robert Knepper and FBI Special Agent ‘Alexander Mahone’ who is William Fitchner in real life. Added to my favorites is Michael Schofield who, like Edward Cullen in Twilight, seems to be the perfect guy.

I know Prison Break has to end, but I’m not expecting it to be this season. I checked Wikipedia and found out that the number of viewers had dropped from 12 to 6 million. They say that the reason for not having season 5 is not because of the decline in the number of viewers but the storyline had been made that way.

Anyway, avid male fans will also miss the series’ ladies, led by Sarah and Gretchen, and some long gone characters like Veronica and Nika (Scofield’s ‘wife’). Like other sexy actresses, these Prison Break ladies also have the great figures especially Holly Valance (Nika) who said in an interview that she would love to do ‘Playboy’ topless and would be tempted to do photo shoots aside from acting. I’m guessing if this is the effect of different diet pills in the market like Leptorexin.

Best Marriage Proposal

Wow, only a week had passed and another one of my best friends was engaged. This time it’s Mich. I will update this post once I get a scoop on how James proposed to her.

Speaking of marriage proposals, men always tend to make it as unique as possible. They would come up with creative ideas that could range from simple thoughts such as cakes, ice cream, and romantic dinner to the most absurd ways like using a camping gears, diving equipments or even horse supplies. I read one of the best marriage proposals in one website. Here it goes – The couple met at the Sydney Opera House in 2000 but didn’t go out until 2004. They were from different states. Different things stopped them from being together including passing away of a family member, court case being initiated and so on. The name of the woman is Joanne.

“Joanne had already been given her air tickets a month before, and at 9.45am Brisbane time she would be picked up by Limo and driven to the Airport. Joanne boarded Qantas flight Q525 and arrived in Sydney an hour and a half later and greeted by my best man and the Limo driver. She was driven to David Jones and was given a rack of dresses myself and the store manager had selected over 3 weeks and she would get 2 hours to find her dress and shoes. Whoops, I missed the part where all our songs we’ve cherished together were in Limo’s and at each stage she received a card telling her what was next. She was also accompanied by a professional photographer through the whole event. She then was sent to a Beauty Salon where she received a 3 and a half hour massage, reflexology, makeup and her hair done. When Joanne came out she was met by a horse. and carriage which took her to the Sebel Resort Hawkesbury. There I was waiting with a 45 piece orchestra with the first music I’ve composed for an orchestra and the words to the song were from a poem I wrote her and left on her pillow when I last visited Brisbane. As she came around the lake, 110 candles lit her path to the red carpet and where 7 of the first violinist were cued to start. Then I sang to her the words, and as she loved teddy bears, a friend of mine donned a teddy bear suit and walked up with the ring to trumpets. As I sang the bridge and knelt down the words, Joanne will you marry me lit up behind me. After a minute (or felt like hours) she said yes and by then the crowd that had all suddenly appeared from the resort cheered and the fireworks and final finale of the piece was played. After all that I had organized for her Mum, brothers, sisters and new born nephews to come down and we had a private function where a menu of her favorite foods were served e.g Green Tea ice Cream and Chinese Congee to her.” – C. Goh

I read this from http://www.best-marriage-proposals.com. This is amazing! I bet Joanne was overwhelmed. Now here is the catch, the budget should be $5000-$10000.

Dinner at Dad’s

A week ago, Harvy, Marlon and I had a dinner at Dad’s Saisaki/Kamayan Ultimate Buffet in Glorietta. This is my third time to dine in this restaurant. I visited Dad’s years back on two consecutive days, first with my HP friends and the next with Marlon and my grandmom. Those were the days when I’m still taking in Ling Zhi Chuang Yao Wan. That explains why I was able to consume all those foods, even more than what Marlon can. I remember gaining weight so fast that I somehow thought of stopping using Ling Zhi and take in a few diet pills.

This time though, I’m completely medicine-free. I only felt the natural hunger – no craving caused by Ling. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:00 PM and were informed that it will close at 10:00 PM. We only have one hour to devour our food, so we wasted no time. We took our first set of meal from Saisaki, the Japanese food buffet. The next round, Marlon and Harvy gobbled on the Filipino dishes. After that, Marlon was full. Harvy took another round of assorted meals. As for me, I ate pasta next. Marlon and I had finished the dinner with ice cream and some desserts. We left the place very full, but not totally satisfied. The food was great – yes, but we did not get our money’s worth, and I blame it to the time frame we have. It should have been better if we started earlier, we would have more time to savor all the dishes.

A Marriage Proposal to Merryll

While browsing for technical education and career articles, my attention was diverted to a text message from Merryll. She was so happy because last night, Mark had proposed to her.

After a long wait and seven years of rewarding relationship, Mark decided he wants Merryll to be his partner for life. So I digged the story on how Mark proposed to her. I am always eager to hear marriage proposal stories especially if it’s a creative one.

After having their typical lovers’ quarrel, Mark went to our office to pick Merryll up and take her to a dinner at Vivere Sky Lounge (on the 31st floor,  rooftop) in Alabang Hotel. Mark handed a bouquet of flowers as a peace offering and Merryll smiled. She hadn’t suspected that something was up because they always go to different restaurants to try out new dishes. After a long ride to Alabang, they finally got to their seats which Mark had reserved. They were seated outside in a corner with the metropolis as the backdrop. It offers exquisite international entrees and there is good music while you’re dining. I think this really is a perfect place to propose or just have a date for your anniversary.

Mark was waiting for the right timing and waited for the nearby guests to leave before executing his plan. He asked Merryll if she wants to order some more and try out some desserts just to buy some time for the others to leave. Merryll said that her outfit is somewhat unqualified for the luxurious place such as that. She was just in her usual jeans and shirt and even left her earrings because of the rush to attend an early meeting in the office. Mark put on the necklace at Merryll then he knelt and popped the magic question “Will you marry me?” Merryll hasn’t heard it so well and is conscious that other people might see Mark kneeling so she said “Yes, just get up!” Mark repeated the question and confirmed that the answer is really yes. I think Merryll was blushing in joy because she had waited so long for this time to come.

Cheers to Mark! It was really a surprise to Merryll.

Two Nights at Riverfront

Before leaving for Australia, my grandmother, aunt and uncles spent two nights in the condominium unit (or a flat as my uncle Dan wants to call it) we recently sold. I was amazed when we visited just weeks after turning over the bare unit. The place was amazing. It’s complete with sofa, beds, air conditioner, dining set and kitchen appliances. Perhaps the buyer got a good deal at a local discount furniture shop.

I joined my relatives for dinner when they arrived in Manila and the night before they left the country. Mamang was very eager to share her secret recipes to me and we had a few chit-chats an alas, I promised to visit them one day in Australia.

I volunteered to cook rice on their first night and to our dismay, it was like a rice soup. Papa and Uncle Ebot teased me and said that I am not used to cooking. Well, it was a long time since I used a rice cooker because my friend Chester said the aluminium used in rice cookers is not good for the health. It is believed to cause Alzheimer’s disease.

Uncle Dan also teased me and is giving me lessons repeatedly and I said “Oh yeah, I just used that rule of thumb you mentioned, I put 2 cups of water to the 2 cups of rice.” Who cares? Even the Care Bears don’t care. We were hungry that night so we didn’t notice we almost ate up all of the so-soft rice.

Marlon’s Oath

The holiday season has just ended and most of us are bloated. At this time of the year, many people are planning to shred excess weight gained. Some prefer going to the gym for physical exercise while others choose to use the best weight loss pill available in the market. Though nobody won in our bet, I wish Marlon considers cutting down his diet. He gained six pounds in less than a month.

Marlon’s oath:

“I, Marlon Dawas, promise to eliminate my belly fat and belly lines by Dec. 10, 2008. If I will not be able to achieve this, I promise to donate P20,000 to a malnourished horse for a good cause, for her shopping spree.” – Sgd. Marlon Dawas

Christmas Party 2008

Another Christmas party had passed and it was one heck of entertainment for us. Good foods were laid on three tables and one of these is my favorite – the desserts table.

After having lunch, all of us headed to the driveway to join the games that promised huge amount of prizes.

Some of the games included Straw Relay, Break the Pot, Lipstick Game, Newspaper Dance and Calamansi Relay and Polvoron-Eating Contest. For the ‘Pop the Balloon’, each one can grab a balloon and once you pop it, you’ll find a play money which you can exchange for its real value. If you’re lucky, you can get a thousand pesos. Guess the Prize is also exciting and you have to mix luck and instinct to guess the amount inside the bottles. Seven bottles were available for guessing. Each bottle has been filled with coins and paper bills. Mom got the grand prize wherein her guess of P2,385.00 was the closest amount. It’s actually P2,400.50. I was going to say that same figure as well but Carlo insisted that it was P2,900+ because year 2009 is coming and this led me to put a wrong amount. Anyway, she can use the winnings to purchase a Samsonite luggage before her trip back to Japan. Mama B bagged the prize for dancing the “Igiling Giling” and she made the audience laugh heartily while she dances. The climax of the party was the Flour Blowing Game and Carlo joined this game. They have to blow a basin of flour and the first team to empty the basin will win.
