NBA 2011 Playoffs
I liked how the 2011 NBA regular season ended – with all teams playing. I don’t recall that this ever happened before, but it’s a good prelude to this year’s playoffs. The playoff games officially started two days back, and eight teams have recorded one win so far – three upsets including that against the Spurs, Lakers and Magic – teams that are favored to reach at least the semifinals. The best game at this point is Game 1 of the Bulls-Pacers series, a comeback win by Chicago after trailing the Pacers for more than 45 minutes.
There was a season a few years ago when most of the playoff games were decided by a game seven. Hopefully this season surpass the excitement felt by most fans during that time. Also, we don’t want to see anyone in aircast. We want to see all teams to be very competitive.
My prediction (or wish) for the first round:
- NY Knicks over Boston Celtics (4-3)
- Miami Heat over Philadelphia 76ers (4-0)
- Chicago Bulls over Indiana Pacers (4-0)
- Atlanta Hawks over Orlando Magic (4-3)
- Memphis Grizzlies over SA Spurs (4-3)
- NO Hornets over LA Lakers (4-3)
- OKC Thunder over Denver Nuggets (4-3)
- Dallas Mavericks over Portland Trail Blazers (4-3)
My ultimate wish – all series reach game 7… and the champion, Bulls.
Pacquiao Beats Margarito
So much for a knockout. Pacquiao won very convincingly, apparently taking every round of the fight. From my perspective, the result is a lopsided win similar to that of Clottey. The only difference is you have to give credit Margarito for throwing punches and not hiding in his arms.
I was reading some post-fight articles and read about Freddie Roach saying that he doesn’t plan to move down 147 lbs anymore. Personally, I like that as well since I don’t think that it’s very healthy for boxers to trim down too much weight. Remember Morales when he last fought Pacquiao. He seems to have gone into a program that exceedingly reducing belly fat to the point that he looks too thin and unhealthy.
Nonetheless, with this forewarning, it means that if someone wants to fight Manny, say the likes of Marques, they have to meet at welterweight division.
Today’s victory is Pacquiao’s 8th division title and we’re very proud for him. Congratulations Manny!
