I haven’t been to Sydney, but some of my friends did and I have relatives living in Australia that have been to the city. What I got from them are tips and suggestions on what to do and where to go. Here are some of them of the places that they recommend.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge – This is one of the most known and photographed landmark of Australia. This is one of the popular steel buildings. It took 1400 men eight years to build the bridge from 1924 to 1930. Today it carries eight traffic lanes and two railroad lines. There is a pedestrian pathway on the eastern side of the bridge and a cycle way on the other side. The Pylon Lookout on the south side is well worth the small admission fee where you can climb 200 steps to the very top of the Pylon and be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the city of Sydney.

The Rocks – As the landing place of 1400 men, women and children in 1788 (over half being convicts) The Rocks provide a fascinating look at Australian history.

Sutherland Shire – Sutherland Shire in South Sydney has the beautiful Cronulla Beaches and is close to four National Parks, yet easily accessed from Sydney City Central.

The Royal Botanic Gardens – The Royal Botanic gardens is open every day of the year (not including any areas assigned for private or ticketed events). Admission is free.

The Art Gallery of NSW – The Art Gallery is well over 100 years old and is the leading museum of art in New South Wales. It holds significant collections of Australian, European and Asian art, and presents nearly forty exhibitions annually.
