I just read a news article today about a school in Louisville that was evacuated after asbestos was discovered in an area of the building that’s under construction. I consider this a good decision by the schools management since asbestos imposes great risks. I remember having a fear going to cinemas when I was young. This was when our teacher told us about the effects of asbestos and that this kind of material is common in movie houses.

Asbestos became popular among manufacturers and builders in the late 19th century because of its resistance to heat, electricity and chemical damage, its sound absorption and tensile strength.

Asbestos is known to cause different forms of diseases, and one of which is mesothelioma – a disease wherein malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs.
