Watching TV on the Internet

I just spent two hilarious hours watching ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’. One scene that took my attention was when the bushman questioned how the people at the foot of the mountain fitted inside the telescope. Technology really creates wonders as proven by the scene in the movie and the fact that I was able to watch it online 30 years after it was filmed.

A few years back, YouTube took the internet to the next level by letting anybody upload their videos online for everyone around the world to view. Nobody would have thought of this a decade or two ago. Now, tons of innovations are being implemented over the internet.

Watching TV over the internet is now possible. There are several websites that allow anyone to do so. Some offers paid services and others allow free TV viewing on the internet.

Thousands of users worldwide are watching internet TV, live shows and recorded videos over the internet. One thing that makes this feasible is a gadget called the Slingbox. This is how Wikipedia describes it:

The Slingbox is a TV streaming device that enables users to remotely view their home’s cable, satellite, or personal video recorder (PVR) programming from an Internet-enabled computer with a broadband Internet connection. It is produced by Sling Media of Foster City, California.

This device allows you somebody to watch the TV from anywhere in the world using a computer or smaller gadgets like mobile phones (Nokia, iPhone, BlackBerry, etc). Though it may not be commonly used for now, it opens the doors to any future possibilities.
